Initial Ideas: Characters

Using the example of filmmaking giants, Pixar, their cinematography and other technical aspects of their films are just merely a means of conveying their ultimate core of the film - the story. Pixar has incredibly memorable stories and in order to create memorable stories, they have to come up with detailed characters with personalities that would influence the audience.

I have had previous experience of developing characters from my final GCSE Drama devised piece, where the theme was characterisation. Firstly, I used the website: http://www.rangen.co.uk/chars/pergen.php to help gain ideas about detailed personalities of possible characters.

In my treatment, I introduced two main characters, Alex and Wren.

ALEX

Personality

For Alex, I was very much inspired by Joel in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and used the link above to generate different personalities.

I generated a personality that I would use some aspects of, such as

  • Highly observant

  • Easily bored

  • Needs personal space

  • Quiet

  • Faithful

  • Non-judgemental

  • Tranquil

Appearance

Oliver from Submarine (2010)

Charlie from The Perks of Being A Wallflower (2012)

WREN

Personality

Personality aspects:

  • Solitary

  • Irrational

  • Curious

  • Hates structure and routine

  • Dislikes thinking ahead (spontaneous)

  • Makes strong, stubborn judgements against others who cross them.

  • Depression
